Science festival

The beginning of the science festival week is a science in the park day for kids. Noah is so interested in science, especially marine biology, that he was in his element. Tons of local organizations had booths with science activities set up for kids. In this top photo, he's looking at a preserved shark. Maybe I need to send him up to visit my uncle Gill for a while. 1st grade intern at Montana state?

This next one (above) was a big water table with plastic sand. Water flowed through and the kids could make dams and then see what happened when there was a flood. It really made me want to work at usgs!

Wes  really enjoyed it too. Here he is making a tree section ornament. Yes, they had matching hats so they look the same.

New preschool

Today Wes started at his new preschool. He was at a really wonderful home preschool for the last few weeks until the big school opened. He had a great time. And, we can walk to school!

Happy September!

Grand Canyon with the boys

The Grand Canyon has always been one of my very favorite places in the world. Growing up in flagstaff we were spoiled by having it as a place to go for day hikes and short backpacking trips. Living farther away I've really missed seeing it, and I can hardly believe today was the first time I've ever taken my boys there. We had a great day, starting at the desert view tower, then a little (nerve wracking) hike down the grand view trail - one of the more technical trails with some pretty steep spots. You can be I didn't let go of Wesley! After that, we walked to Shoshone point, which was amazing. Later the visitors center and then on the way home, oh yes, we stopped at bedrock city. I loved it when I was little and although not quite the same if you've never heard of the flinstones, the boys thought it was pretty cool too.

Desert view tower

The boys were pretty impressed by the view of the canyon from the top of the tower.

And here's Wes on the grand view trail, going down.

And then on the way back up...

The boys at Shoshone point and then the whole family.

And then, a few from bedrock city.

Overall, a really amazing day.

A circuitous route

My dad came back from a trip to tucson and snowflake yesterday. He brought this postcard that was addressed to where my parents lives maybe 25 or more years ago. Someone he knows in snowflake said she'd found the postcard stuck in a library book from the snowflake public library!

It made me think of how nana and I used to write back and forth to eachother. She wrote so often that I got a letter in the mail from her a few days after she passed away. I guess if you write enough letters they stick around for a long time.

Snow shark!

Noah joined a swim team! So much fun to see him so engaged. He is a water boy!
