Yep, this is the best I got for 4th birthday photos of Wes. We had a great little party yesterday. It turns out our new house is actually good for parties - so exciting!
We also did a little trip to a place called the lily ponds this weekend and here are a few photos from that.

The beginning of the science festival week is a science in the park day for kids. Noah is so interested in science, especially marine biology, that he was in his element. Tons of local organizations had booths with science activities set up for kids. In this top photo, he's looking at a preserved shark. Maybe I need to send him up to visit my uncle Gill for a while. 1st grade intern at Montana state?
This next one (above) was a big water table with plastic sand. Water flowed through and the kids could make dams and then see what happened when there was a flood. It really made me want to work at usgs!
Wes really enjoyed it too. Here he is making a tree section ornament. Yes, they had matching hats so they look the same.

The Grand Canyon has always been one of my very favorite places in the world. Growing up in flagstaff we were spoiled by having it as a place to go for day hikes and short backpacking trips. Living farther away I've really missed seeing it, and I can hardly believe today was the first time I've ever taken my boys there. We had a great day, starting at the desert view tower, then a little (nerve wracking) hike down the grand view trail - one of the more technical trails with some pretty steep spots. You can be I didn't let go of Wesley! After that, we walked to Shoshone point, which was amazing. Later the visitors center and then on the way home, oh yes, we stopped at bedrock city. I loved it when I was little and although not quite the same if you've never heard of the flinstones, the boys thought it was pretty cool too.
Desert view tower
The boys were pretty impressed by the view of the canyon from the top of the tower.
And here's Wes on the grand view trail, going down.

My dad came back from a trip to tucson and snowflake yesterday. He brought this postcard that was addressed to where my parents lives maybe 25 or more years ago. Someone he knows in snowflake said she'd found the postcard stuck in a library book from the snowflake public library!
It made me think of how nana and I used to write back and forth to eachother. She wrote so often that I got a letter in the mail from her a few days after she passed away. I guess if you write enough letters they stick around for a long time.

I knw those of you who are friends with Chris on Facebook see photos of me every once in a while, but here on this blog, they are rare. I know. I get complaints about it. Anyway, I don't know why because I'm not very photogenic. But, here's one of me and my sweet first grader. Next time you see me you can tell me to stand up straight but otherwise it's such a great picture I had to share it.
The first and second day of school have gone pretty well. Adjusting to doing work, even waldorf style, is going to take a little time after that ridiculously long summer vacation, but he'll get there.

Noah started first grade this morning. He was so excited that he got up and was ready to go by 7:00am. His school had a "rose ceremony" where the eighth graders gave each new first grader a rose to carry into class with them. Chris is teaching at the same school and we're pretty excited to start settling into a new town and new routine finally!
I can't wait to hear how the day went!

We had a great little trip to the beach last week. These boys loved the strawberry soda at the taco stand. It's the simple things, right?
We rented a condo right on the quiet beach where there were great little ride pools at low tide with a million tiny hermit crabs everywhere. Noah loved making friends with the crabs.
The flower cut mango on a stick was apparently Noah's favorite part of the trip.
Our place was the one on the right. So close to he ocean we didn't even need our beach umbrella.
Hey! There's actually a photo of me. Thanks Wesley! And here's one of the beautiful sunset!
Noah and I visited the mini time machine museum in tucson last weekend. I know it's nerdy but I've always loved fancy dollhouses. This place was amazing. Noah loved their giant front door (makes you feel like a mini person) and the tiny person door next to it (above his head in the photo).
And here is a selection of my favorite dollhouses.
We moved into a new house! Here's what it looks like so far: dining room and living room.
From dining room table into kitchen:
And our bedroom in the process of getting rid of the deal orange wall color:
Weird middle tv room looking out into sun room:
Sun room/ playroom:
So there it is! It's pretty sprawling and I'm sure you can't even sort of imagine the layout from these, but it's an idea :-)
When I went to make sure this post went up I found out that my last two posts were never published. I guess life is all out of order these days anyway!
