Summer Desert Picnic

When you think of Tucson in the summer, outdoor picnics in the desert might not be the first thing that comes to mind. This time of year though, even though it gets over a hundred degrees most days, it's still dry. The dryness with a breeze means that as soon as the sun is low enough, it's pretty pleasant outside. At least, for those of us who are aclimated to think that anything below 95 is "a little chilly"...
Anyway, the other evening I made hummus and since we needed to go out and get peas and carrots to eat with it, we decided to just keep going and drive to the other side of the Tucson mountains for a sunset picnic.

Sadly, we missed the huge saguaro bloom this year. The tops were just covered in them. Here is an arm that was bending down to let me take a closer picture of the beautiful fruits that come after.

Post-vacation zucchini mania

We got back from a little trip to flagstaff yesterday and this is what was waiting for us in our little community garden plot! Anyone want some giant zucchini?

I'll post some more photos from our trip soon. Chris even got me out on my new mountain bike :-)
