January Desert Hike

-0314

This is the time of year in Tucson when you can really get out and enjoy perfect weather. Sunny and in the high seventies. Wonderful. So we went out for Wesley's first hike (I think...). Noah wasn't sure he wanted to go, but I convinced him that it was a "photo walk" and so he grabbed his camera and came along. (By the way, click here to see a little blog of his photos that I set up to share some of Noah's photos since Grandma Patti got him his very own digital camera for Christmas.)

These were some of the rudest mountain bikers ever, but at least they added a little interesting element and made this photo really cool.

Hard at Work

This is what my office looks like lately (no, I don't leave Wes actually rolling around on the desk though...).

Trying to hold on

So much of life is spent looking forward. Thinking about the future. Working toward something bigger, and therefore, supposedly better. Right now I found myself at a time in life where I have hardly any free time, hardly any extra money, and it's just going by too fast. The present is such a sweet, fleeting time that I just want to hold on to it. To cuddle my babies just a little bit longer. To spend my entire evenings smushed in between two boys who can only go to sleep when they are cuddled up against me (actually, I think I'm ready to move past that last part...).
Anyway, here is a little project I did last night to try to hold on to a little piece of this tiny babyhood. The first "shadowboxes" I've ever made. Here they are. First footprints, ultrasound photos, umbilical cord stumps, first baby hats (and Noah's has a few other little trinkets I've collected along the way, like a curl from his first haircut).

Sorry they're a little blury, but you get the idea. Also, I like how you can see me in that last one.

Party it Up

You might already know this, but jumping castles are a big deal in Tucson. There's a place where you can have parties that's just a great big room filled with really elaborate jumping castles, and what a great place for a birthday party!
My mom was in town and Chris was out of town, so I left Wesley at home and Noah and I went off together to jump the night away at "Pump it Up." I didn't even bring a camera (but I did have to get a few with my phone). So, here's what I snapped in between jumping, crawling through tunnels, climbing up moving walls, and going down fast slides with one happy little boy (and several of his friends from school).

After Jumping there was pizza and cupcakes for everybody. I can't wait to go back.
There was no music, but who needs it when you love to dance?

A Nice Long Weekend of...

Putting things back together. The main job with digging out dirt from under the sink to expose huge, rusty cast iron pipes and figuring out how to replace them. Yuck.
OR, spending the entire weekend trapped under the kitchen counter fixing corroded old pipes. At least my wonderful husband got the job done and the sink back in working order!

Keeping an eye on what matters

I confess that I've been having a little trouble adjusting to being back at work. Bringing the little one to work (I know I'm very lucky to be able to do this) and then picking the 2-year-old up at school, home to make dinner and then launch into our remarkably unstreamlined bedtime routine. Laundry, dishes, and whatever else in between... anyway, let's just say that my temper has been shorter than I would like. I tell myself all day about how patient I'm going to be, to see things through two-year-old eyes... but sometimes I just yell. Feeling bad about getting frustrated with an overly whiny morning this morning, I found this piece of paper lying on the floor of Noah's room. I don't know what it is or where it came from, but I made me stop and think. This what matters... how much I adore these two little boys. Everything else needs to just collect some more dust.

And one more boy in there two. The daddy, often referred to as "Tris!" And isn't this a great one for showing family love??

3 Months

I missed the 5th of the month again for the monthly baby update post. He was due on the 7th, so it still counts doesn't it?
I don't have stats because we don't see the pediatrician again until 4 months. I suppose I could have weighed him on the home scale, but that would have required some forethought and math skills, but I think I traded those both in for my 'mom' title...

A little funny because I was too close, but such a sweet little smile

So, a few things that a special about Wes this month:

- He's laughing! Just barely starting in the last few days. Someone even heard it from down the hall at work. One of the sweetest sounds in the whole world.

- Holding his head up almost 90 degrees during 'tummy time'. He's a strong baby who loves standing up (with help of course).

- Looking at his hands. This doesn't sound like much, but it's a milestone and when you see him do it you can really see the increasing awareness of this world that he's so new to.

- He loves to be held. Our Christmas trip being around so many loving family members really spoiled him. "What do you mean I have to lie down to sleep?!"

- He talks and squeals and gurgles,  so cute.

I'm sure there are tons more things, but these are the main ones that stick out at the moment. He's the sweetest little guy. I wish this part wouldn't go by quite so fast!

And just for fun, here is a link to Noah's 3 month post for comparison (of them, not of my dedication to cataloging I hope...) Click here.
