Dex's Birthday

This one was actually over a week ago, but better late than never, right? The last in our series of May birthday parties. This one was a fancy one at the Tucson zoo for one of Noah's classmates.

The Animal visors and lion water bottles were a big hit. So was the pancake breakfast.

Noah was so excited about the cupcakes that he did a solo performance of "Happy Birthday to Dex."

Enjoying a trip to the otter pool with his buddies.

Last week was Noah's last week of school for the summer. I was so sad to leave his classroom. He had such wonderful teachers and sweet little friends. I actually cried when we were leaving on the last day. I hope his class next year is as good.

A baby brother!

Sorry about the glare... these were really shiny! So here HE is, it's going to be a baby boy!

In profile, one of the few with his mouth closed
Those of you who know Chris well will appreciate the fact that during the ultrasound, the woman said, "Geez little baby, close your mouth. You're going to catch some flies."

From the back, looking at his little back and his arm up beside his head

2 years old!!

We've been singing (and hearing) a whole lot of "Happy Birthday to Noah" around here lately. Yesterday we had a fun little morning birthday party with a few of Noah's friends and a great little inflatable pool/awesome desert oasis. Noah had a great time. He was all about the cake, and so was I. Carrot cake with maple cream cheese frosting made from a smitten kitchen recipe. How can you beat that?

The kids loved playing in the pool, throwing the balls, and coming in and dripping water all over the floor to get crackers and then go back out. Once we put some towels down on the floor everything worked out great.

Enjoying the cake

"Class" Cupcakes

Since we decided not to have a big birthday party with all of Noah's buddies from his class, I brought in cupcakes today. Noah helped me make the cake yesterday, and then Cheryl and her baby, Tyler, came over to help with icing them. I wish I could blame Cheryl for the grey frosting, but the truth is that it was my poor judgement (and trusting the lid color of the food coloring) that made the ugliest frosting color ever. At least the blue was pretty...

The final product isn't too bad, but that grey color is amazing huh?

Noah helping with the cupcake baking. He added more sugar while I was taking the picture, so I'm not sure whether the measurement came out just right...

And here they are enjoying them. I don't think the boys minded that the frosting was partially grey, or that the cupcakes were carrot.

I have a video too, but I have to wait until Chris gets home so I can get him to log in to his youtube account and upload it for you. I promise I'll post it soon.

Another 2nd Birthday party

The second edition in our month of birthday parties. We forgot the camera, so these are taken with Chris' phone. This party was for Noah's friend from school, and it was a big one! Noah had a great time eating hot dogs, watermelon, and birthday cake with his buddies. Check out those cakes! They were made by a friend of the family (not a professional). And I think watermelon sculpting is a great idea. We had a great time.

Welcoming Babies

We picked up this children's book at Bookman's Used Books the other day. Each page is about how a different culture welcomes new babies into the world. I know it's a little early to start trying to get Noah ready for a new baby, but he's really into this book. Especially the page where the African village starts to sing when a baby is born (he likes to sing all day long).
Last night after I read the book to him a couple of times, he pointed to my belly and said,
"Welcome baby sister?"

The 1st 2nd Birthday party

Since many of Noah's friends are close to his age, May will be a month filled with 2nd birthday parties. Eva's was the first one, and it was a blast. Every time I ask Noah what he would like for his birthday he says, "Cake." And he's serious about it. Check out his crouching position to eat Eva's lovely cupcakes.

He wasn't sure about how to eat a cupcake. This unusual child almost always prefers to eat with a fork, even for pizza. He mostly just licked all the frosting off the top.

Present time. You can see Eva's eyes starting to droop a little bit. Being birthday girl is a lot of work.

Noah was coveting Eva's new tricycle vespa, complete with music and a honking horn.

Productive Morning

On our way home from grocery shopping this morning I was surprised to notice that it was only 9:30. I guess we got up early...
Such an early start gave us some time for morning projects. Noah and Chris went to work in the backyard, building a solar oven.

I was inside heating up the house by baking banana bread in the conventional way. It sure made the house smell good though! It's been a long time since we had any overripe bananas in this house. Our little boy has been a banana fiend, and I often found myself buying bananas in the middle of the week at least one. This craving seems to have dropped off though, so banana bread seemed like the best option.

Fresh banana bread

During a little break from our projects, we did a craft project that was supposed to turn into (late) mother's day cards for our mothers (it hasn't yet, but we're still working on it).

Sweetest Mother's Day Already

I'm sure I've mentioned here how grateful I am for how wonderful Noah's teachers are, but here is another example of how much fun he has at daycare, and how great they are. I'm one lucky mama.
